[MA 2021 10] Evaluation of the I-JGZ application for quality of care and parent empowerment in the preventive child health care

TNO
Proposed by: Olivier Blanson Henkemans [Olivier.blansonhenkemans@tno.nl]

Introduction: The preventive child health care (in Dutch jeugdgezondheidzorg, JGZ) is in transition to maintain the quality, accessibility and affordability of care. Especially during the corona crisis. Primary aim is to strengthen the possibilities, involvement and problem-solving capacity of families i.e., parent empowerment, through personalisation of the JGZ.

I-JGZ aims to involve parents in the growth and development of their child. Through self-monitoring and education. It also aims to provide JGZ professionals decision support to provide more personalized, uniform and efficient care.

TNO developed a decision-support system (DSS), based on JGZ-guidelines, called the Smart Guideline Module (SRM). The SRM can help professionals (doctor, nurses) through their digital dossier to perform their work more effectively and increase the quality of care. The SRM mechanism can also be applied to offer parents personalised information, through application such as the GroeiGids app. Finally, JGZ increasingly offers multimedia, such as Van Wiechen-films, to parents to support self-monitoring and education.

Description of the SRP Project/Problem: With the integration of the SRM, digital dossier, GroeiGids app, and Van Wiechen-films, the JGZ can be personalised and quality and accessibility can be enhanced. Integration enables offering of Big-data solutions, based on data from different sources combined (i.e., JGZ and parents).

However, successful integration requires further research of 1) the user needs for Big-data solutions in the JGZ (i.e., user requirements); 2) interoperability of eHealth services in the JGZ for integration (i.e., technical requirements and constraints).

This project is part of the I-JGZ program: https://www.tno.nl/nl/aandachtsgebieden/gezond-leven/roadmaps/youth/i-jgz-geintegreerde-en-gepersonaliseerde-digitale-innovaties-voor-gezonde-jeugd/

Research question: How can the GroeiGids app integrated with the SRM contribute to parent empowerment, through further personalization of the JGZ?

Sub questions/research:

1. What are the user requirements of professionals parents for I-JFZ, so that they feel supported in their possibilities, involvement and problem-solving ability (parent empowerment)?

2. How can eHealth services be integrated to best offer smart solutions to professionals and professionals, based on data from the different services combined?

Expected results: 1) Proposal for the integration of eHealth services in the context of de JGZ, dealing with blended care, HCI, patient empowerment, and quality of care (literature review); 2) results of I-JGZ prototype evaluation with professionals and parents (evaluation report).

Time period: 7 months
